Img.378 (#D2): Totem poles from the tropical island of Borneo. Typically, they have hollows in their center, while in ancient times dead people were stored in these hollows. Locals still pray to them today. These poles exhibit supernatural abilities - typically harming those people who somehow get on their nerves. For example, I met a totem pole of the Bidayuh tribe of Borneo that did NOT like to be photographed. This pole almost killed a German tourist who, not believing the warnings of local people, still snapped a photo of it - for more details about it see subsections I5.7. aus volume 5 and JB3.2. from volume 7 from monograph [1/5].
