Img.230 (#D2a): Me (i.e. Dr. Jan Pająk) photographed on the edge of an oil palm plantation. Beginning around the 1970s, in Malaysia you can drive for miles through forests composed solely of this oil palm. In fact, forests of such oil palm plantations are as common and as extensive in Malaysia as pine forests are in Poland. Only that oil palms exhibit the possession of a kind of supernatural trait of dying in a highly synchronized manner, while European pine trees lead a banally ordinary life.
